 Fall Crafts: Braided Raffia Wreath

This is one of those “I haven’t seen that in a while” kinds of crafts.

I get a lot of requests from people who have front doors with a screen door in front of the door. They want a wreath for the door but it can’t be very thick or deep because there isn’t much space between the doors.

If you have the same problem… read on.

I used a whole package of raffia for this wreath. It was already tied at one end.

I put the tied end under a heavy object, in this case a pick machine, to anchor it down. If you don’t have something heavy to sit on it ask a friend to hold it for you.

And then I proceeded to braid.

I simply tied off the end with a piece of raffia to keep it from coming unbraided.

And I joined the two ends together.

Tie them together with raffia.

You may want to dab some hot glue here to give it more strength.

I’m personally not a big BOW person. Actually, I’m not a bow person at all but this kind of wreath seems to need one.

I wired the bow on and then hot glued a fall pick in the center.

And I left some raffia hang down from the wreath.

Super easy and thin enough, I think, to fit in the slimmest door spacing.

This is great and just what I have been looking for. Have you done a Christmas version?

      Hi Rosemary,
No, I haven’t done a Christmas version. All you would really need to do is change out the ribbon color and the pick. I HAVE created a double braided wreath which you can see here: Double Braided Raffia Wreath – Video Tutorial and a bow making video here: How to Make a Bow. I hope you find the video tutorials useful. Again, just switch the autumn colors out for more of a Christmas look.
