Halloween Crafts: Etched Wine Glass with Gel Candle

Halloween Crafts: Etched Glass with Gel Candle

BEWARE.

I went digging through files of past Halloween crafts and found a few that I never posted for one reason or another.

Like this one from 2010.

I created this project at the 11th hour and then when I couldn’t get good photos I scrapped it.

It’s a cool project though.

I was experimenting with a couple of different products – Armour Etch and gel candle wax.

First, wash a wine glass (you can get them at the craft store for $1) inside and out. Let dry.

Cut apart the stencils and adhere them to the dry glass. They are self-stick but I also added blue tape around the edges to secure them even more since this is a rounded surface. Also, since the design goes so close to the edge of the stencil I was worried about etching outside the image and the blue tape gave me some wiggle room.

Follow the directions on the Armour Etch and set the etched glasses aside.

Next, I used gel candle wax and added a red wine colorant to it and then heated it up in the microwave in a microwave safe dish.

Then I added a wick to the glass and poured in the gel wax.

Let set.

A red wine candle in an etched glass.

Sophisticated and refined…

…yet creepy.

You bet! :) I went to make some more this morning but I’m out of wicks too. Ended up cleaning up one of my craft storage areas. I want to make SURE I’m out before I go out to the store.
