Halloween Crafts - Handmade Soaps with a Toy Surprise Inside

I thought this would be a fun idea for a childs school Halloween party.  Except they can’t do things “Halloween” in most places any more.  “Fall” and “Harvest” themes are usually allowed though so it would be easy to change the contents of these surprise soaps to fit the theme.  Or you can just make them for your own little Halloween goblins at home.

I found a selection of surprises to put in soap that include glow in the dark snakes (yes, they glow even in the soap!) skeleton hands, bouncy balls, eyeballs and spiders. Little goodies like this are easy to find in most discount and craft stores.

Supplies:

1. Place the surprises inside the mold.  To get the prizes to stay near the top of the soap just pour in a bit of the melted soap and let it set for a minute or two.  It acts as a glue of sorts that keeps the prize from floating to the top of the mold… which would be the bottom of the soap.

2. I used a clear glycerin soap so that 1) you can see the surprises and 2) because so many children have allergies it was, I thought, the safest choice.

3. It’s a simple thing to cut up the squares of soap, place them in a microwave safe dish, melt and pour into molds. Follow package instructions for the brand of soap you are using.

4. Let cool and then remove from the mold.

I added a touch of red dye to the eye ball soap hoping that it would look like veins but it didn’t quite work out.  Still fun though.  The top left hand picture has the snake that doesn’t show up very well in the day light.  However, it does glow in the dark.  SPOOKY!

What a fun way to get little ones to wash their hands.  They’ll probably wash a little longer too hoping to get the prize out of the middle.  We can always hope. 🙂
