First, the book review… Please visit my friend Jenny’s Craft Test Dummies blog where I give the low down on what is between the covers of this inspiring book.

You can also find out more and purchase Signature Styles  from Amazon.com.

Now on to the MAKING portion of this post!

I was inspired by the necklace in Signature Styles by the project Megan Nicolay featured in her section of the book. Only, of course, you know I had to make it MY WAY. :)

Not that my way is better… it’s just my way. And after all, the whole idea of Signature Styles is to help you get a better idea of what YOUR style is.

You can see that I did a few things differently.

The first thing I did was paint the heck out of a ugly yellow t-shirt I had here. Now, I can’t even begin to tell you where that yellow t-shirt came from because yellow is SO not my color. Probably one of the kids…or my mother in laws house. Either way… it’s pretty useless to the original owner by now! :)

Anyway, I just went to town. Dots, dashes, splashes and swatches. The yellow shows through in a few places but over all the t-shirt fabric is well covered with Jacquard Textile Colors. I LOVE  color!

I let the paint dry and then heat set it with my iron.

I also “cheated” and used my Clover Yo Yo Makers in Small and Large to make yo yo’s in two different sizes.

I stitched all of the yo yo’s together as seen in the book but then I decided that it really needed something MORE. So I found 12mm Fresh Water pearls in “rose” from Michaels and small seed beads and bugle beads by ToHo.

I simply stitched the pearl in the center of the yo yo where all of the fabric meets and then stitched the gold bugle bead and purple seed beads as shown. There are four seed beads in each “spoke”.

The little lentil pearls on the smaller yo yo’s are from the same strand that had the 12mm fresh water pearls and I stitched them in the centers.

I also cut two lengths of sheer ribbon and stitched them to either end of the bib to tie the necklace around my neck.

I SUPER LOVE the way this turned out and it’s just MY style! :)

It’s gorgeous- and I love that you dyed the t-shirt as well as added the pearls- very “upscale!”
