Spotlight Saturday – FOLK Magazine, Sublime Stitching and More

Saturday. Finally. I was beginning to wonder if this week was ever going to end.

You too?

Seems like several people I talked to were also having “one of those weeks”.

So let’s have an extra cup of something warm and lovely and breathe a collective sigh of relief, shall we?

FOLK Magazine

Speaking of an extra cup…FOLK Magazine is a nice little treat to enjoy while you are sipping and relaxing.

Nice segue, huh?

I recently WON a subscription to FOLK Magazine and I’m super excited. I’m a good way into the first issue (It’s a lot to read, this is a magazine that is a little more like a book) and I’m loving it.

From the FOLK website about page:

You may be asking what exactly FOLK is all about. Simply put it is about ALL AMERICAN LIVING. The driving force behind FOLK is to immerse the reader in a life that journeys at a slower pace, one that involves drinking iced tea on the front porch, having conversations with friends, reliving the olden days, hunting for the perfect antique and vintage items, eating at local diners, perfecting family recipes, picking tomatoes off the vine, summers spent in a swing under an old oak tree, buying locally made products, driving with windows down and Miranda Lambert blasting, creating unique collections of your own, find the country life in any setting, and one that remembers the little things that make life worth living.

I can totally get behind that.

Except maybe for the Miranda Lambert part.

Um, except I just watched THIS VIDEO on YouTube and it’s not bad.

I’m a ROCK girl. Sorry FOLK.

Anyway.

I can get behind Ben and the folks at FOLK. I’m so happy to see younger people keeping the traditions alive that I grew up with.

You know, those things I thought were lame when I was a kid.

The ones I treasure now.

The photos are great and even the ads are nice to look at.

My only issue? (Pun intended) Some of the pages are hard to read for my 46 year old eyes. This article on the fall background is lovely but I found it hard to read. And the article about the Ghoultide Gathering  was printed on black pages.I had to keep moving the page around because it was impossible to read where the light hit it.

Overall though it’s a great magazine. Lots of inspiration and information along with new businesses, blogs and websites to learn more about.

If you see it on the news stand be sure to pick it up and try it out.

Sublime Stitching

Last week when I was in New Jersey for my Mother in Laws’ funeral I got an email from Jenny Hart asking for my mailing address. Now, I don’t give out my home address to EVERYONE but, hey, it’s Jenny of Sublime Stitching.

She could have a kidney if she wanted it. Well, not a kidney for real but I did give her my address and I was rewarded with a super fun package in the mail.

You know what makes it even better? It contained TOP SECRET information.

Seriously.

But it’s not Top Secret any more. The cat is out of the bag. Sublime Stitching is selling their own line of embroidery floss. How perfect is THAT?

I can’t wait to try this stuff out. I have a couple of projects that I’ve been wanting to embroider on and the timing is PERFECT!

Sublime Floss from Sublime Stitching

With palettes like “Flowerbox”, “Parlour”, “Frosting” and “Fruit Salad” there are plenty of coordinating color palettes to stitch with.

Oh, and let’s not forget the “Mingles” – pre-blended embroidery floss. The colors in the “Taffy Pull” package are just BEGGING me to stitch with them.

Don’t worry, I’ll break Sublime Floss™ out in a Toolbox Tuesday post soon and give you more information.

And maybe, just maybe, I’ll share a package or two in my giveaway at the end of the month. But only if you are VERY good. ;)

I also received this fun package in the mail from Jenny at Craft Test Dummies.

Jenny did a Review of the Fuse Creativity System and got a little carried away creating die cuts.

And she gifted members of the team some goodies.

They are the perfect size to add to tags or art journal pages. Thanks Jenny!!

Well, that’s it for my spotlight this week. A new magazine to read, floss to stitch with and crafty bits for my art journal.

Maybe it wasn’t such a bad week after all?

So tell me, how do you ride out a rough week?

Sorry you had such a long week. I had a very sleepless week, but hope to catch up this weekend. Never heard of FOLK magazine, but will be sure to check it out at the library or magazine rack at the book store. Hmmm. look like you had a week of goodies arrive at your house. Love the colors at Sublime Stitching. Makes me want to start embroidering again. LOL.

I usually call my mom (who is 83) and chat everyday, if I am having one of those long weeks. She always encourages me to find a fun craft project to work on to make the time go by faster. My mom was the kind of mom who taught me how to embroider, crochet, sew, decorative painting and cook.

thanks for sharing. Have a great weekend.

      Hi Joan,

Let me know if you find a copy of FOLK. I’m always interested to know when/if my friends like the same things I do. If they do. ;)
You know, I’m not sure I’d want to stitch up a major embroidery piece anytime real soon but I do like to add a little bit of embroidery to things here and there.
Aww, that’s cool that you talk to your mom every day. My mom makes me a little nuts so I don’t talk to her quite that much! :)
